Project #2

26.07.16

The other concept that I've looked into is to create an app for tattooists and tattoo designers/enthusiasts. Tattooing has always been an interest of mine and I feel that there is a disconnect between the tattooists themselves and the consumers who want to get a tattoo. To bridge this gap I think there is a need for people to be able to experiment with and visualise tattoos on their skin without having to physically go into parlours or book appointments with artists.

The App would be a 3D environment with a human model, where two dimensional sketches or designs can be uploaded to visualise what each tattoo will look like once applied to someones skin in a 3D context. By having a range of designs created by tattooists and users in one place, people using the app would be able to search through a library of existing designs and mix and match them to create a unique and original tattoo.

The potential of this idea expands to buying and selling designs through the app, promoting specific tattoo artists or studios and connecting different users and tattoo artists together to establish a community of people who share the same goal - creating original, diverse and customised tattoos for the people who want them.

I have researched existing apps that are trying to achieve something similar but feel that the ones that are currently available are more of a novelty experience and don't specifically appeal to the people who are serious about tattooing or are inclined to go out and get one.

One app that I personally downloaded and have been experimenting with is called 'Inkhunter'. The concept was similar where you can apply an existing design or original of your own to different parts of your body. The app was limited in that you had to draw a square smiley on the desired part of your body and line it up with your camera through the app for the tattoo to be applied. This limits users who want something out of reach (on their back) or want to view the tattoo from different angles once it has been applied. It also means that the applied tattoos can't be modified further or connected to other designs that you'd like to incorporate. The library was very limited even after subscribing through facebook and there was no option to upload designs for other app users, hence the 'novelty experience' that I've mentioned. There was also limited credit to artists that had supplied the existing designs that were available to use.

Project #1

25.07.16

The first project that I've begun researching is an idea to create a drinking vessel with two chambers. The idea came to me when going to purchase a drink from fix and buying both a Powerade and a bottle of water. By having two separate chambers the bottle would reduce consumer choice, have great market potential and could explore a variety of different applications.

Doing some research into this concept, I've found some existing products that are trying to achieve similar goals. These products are currently only available online and are still in the early stages of production. They are being marketed as personal, reusable drink bottles rather than being tied to a brand and mass produced but the ideas still offer insight and inspiration for my own project.

For the project I could look at designing and creating the bottle itself to market to existing companies and explore different applications that would enhance their products. Combination examples could be Fresh-Up and Sprite or Coca-Cola and Raspberry (the list goes on).

I'm also considering designing the bottle as a whole new product to market the particular drink combination of electrolytes and water. The target audience would include athletes, fitness enthusiasts and generally active people and the competitive difference would be focused around the fact that absorbing and benefiting from drinking electrolytes requires the body to also have water. By having them both in one bottle it becomes very convenient and suits the lifestyle of that target market.

Potential Projects

22.07.16

After forming groups and discussing our projects in the first session I brainstormed some of the key ideas I had shared with the group. The feedback I received was that all of the different projects were interesting, original and had potential. Annette suggested I make a case for one or two of my preferred options to determine if they would be viable as my studio project and find out if there are existing solutions or competition already in the market.
